Membership and Subscription Cancellation Policy

1. Scope

This policy applies to all categories of CSTA membership and to any non-member subscriptions or supporter schemes offered by the CSTA, including but not limited to The Fulcrum and Friends of the CSTA.

"Written notice" means notice submitted by email or post to the contact details published by the CSTA

Membership

2. Cooling-off Period and Refunds

2.1 New members may cancel their membership by giving written notice to the CSTA within 14 days of their first membership payment.

2.2 Where cancellation is received within this 14-day period, a refund will be issued less a £60 administration fee, provided no membership benefits have been accessed or used during that period.

2.3 If any membership benefits have been accessed or used during the 14-day cooling-off period, no refund will be payable.

3. Membership Term and Renewal

3.1 Membership is valid for a period of 12 months from the date an application is accepted or a membership is renewed.

3.2 Members who do not wish to renew their membership must provide the CSTA with at least one calendar month's written notice before their renewal date.

4. Cancelling Your Membership

4.1 A request to cancel membership must be submitted in writing using the contact details provided by the CSTA.

4.2 Where no complaint or disciplinary matter is outstanding, membership will end once the cancellation has been processed and confirmed in writing by the CSTA.

4.3 Until written confirmation of cancellation has been issued, members remain subject to the CSTA Code of Ethics and Conduct and Standards of Practice.

5. Complaints and Disciplinary Procedures

5.1 If a member is subject to an active complaint or disciplinary procedure at the time they request cancellation, the CSTA may defer completion of the cancellation until the matter has been concluded.

5.2 For the purposes of any ongoing complaint or disciplinary process, the member will continue to be treated as a member until that process has been completed.

6. Changing Membership Category

6.1 Members wishing to change their membership category may do so from their next renewal date.

6.2 Requests to change membership category must be submitted in writing at least one calendar month before the renewal date. Requests received after this time will normally take effect at the following renewal.

7. Effect of Cancellation or Termination

7.1 Upon cancellation, termination, expiry or non-renewal of membership, all rights, privileges, benefits and services associated with membership will cease.

7.2 This includes, where applicable, but is not limited to:

  • inclusion on the CSTA Register (reserved for Full Registered Members);

  • the right to use the CSTA members’ logo (reserved for Full Registered Members);

  • the right to use the post-nominal letters RCST (reserved for Full Registered Members);

  • access to member-only publications, resources and services;

  • access to discounts, partner schemes and third-party benefits offered through CSTA membership; and

  • any other membership benefits made available by the CSTA from time to time.

7.3 Where membership is withdrawn, terminated, lapses or an application is declined, the use of the CSTA members’ logo and post-nominal letters RCST must cease with immediate effect on any publicity material and must be removed from your website immediately and strictly no later than 30 days.

7.4. Where membership is withdrawn, terminated, lapses or an application is declined, the CSTA will retain personal information only in accordance with its Data Protection and Records Retention Policies.

Non-Member Subscriptions

8. The Fulcrum and Friends of the CSTA

8.1 This section applies to non-member subscriptions and supporter schemes offered by the CSTA, including but not limited to The Fulcrum and Friends of the CSTA.

8.2 Non-member subscriptions are separate from CSTA membership and do not confer membership rights, professional status or the right to use CSTA designations reserved for Full Registered Members.

8.3 Subscribers who do not wish to renew must provide at least one calendar month's written notice before the renewal date.

8.4 Cancellation will prevent future renewals but will not entitle the subscriber to a refund for the current subscription period except where required by law.

8.5 Access to subscriber publications, services and benefits will cease at the end of the paid subscription period.
